Product description

The Custom Writing Journal is a school-branded, undated journal designed to rebuild the daily writing habit from the ground up. It pairs structured handwriting and fine-motor practice with a wellbeing and pastoral-care framework, so that every time a student picks up a pen, they're practising letter formation, expressing themselves, and checking in with how they're doing.

Schools build their own journal from a menu of activity categories — mixing and matching the skills that matter to their community — then add their own cover artwork and ten pages of school-specific rules and regulations. The result is a single, cohesive book that replaces a stack of separate readers, reflection sheets, and behaviour handouts.

The journal is offered at four progression levels, so the writing demands, prompt complexity, and page layouts grow with the student.

The four levels

Lower Elementary (Foundation–Year 2) The emphasis is squarely on fine motor skills and getting marks on the page. Generous writing lines, letter-formation and missing-letter activities, trace-and-copy word work, picture prompts, colouring panels, and simple daily reading logs ("Book title / Number of nights read"). Short, friendly check-ins (smile-face mood ratings, "Did you...?" wellbeing tick boxes) keep it achievable for emerging writers.

Upper Elementary (Years 3–6) Students move from forming letters to forming sentences. Weekly reading journals capture book title, pages, and minutes read; reflection prompts like "What went well this week?" and gratitude entries ask for a few written lines; goal-setting and mood-meter activities build self-expression alongside handwriting stamina.

Middle School (Years 7–9) Writing becomes a tool for thinking. Wellbeing reflections draw on the PERMAH framework, self-talk and growth-mindset prompts, thinking tools, and study-skills planning. Longer free-response spaces encourage paragraph-level writing and personal voice, while weekly check-ins maintain the pastoral-care rhythm.

High School (Years 10–12) The focus shifts toward the future: career and guidance planning, "Future Me," work-readiness, vocational and study skills, and digital-profile reflection. Writing tasks are open and reflective, supporting goal articulation, planning, and self-awareness as students prepare for life beyond school.

Mix-and-match skills

Schools assemble their journal from a catalogue of ready-to-customise activity categories. Each can be tuned to the chosen level and woven through the weekly pages or set as standalone spreads.

Writing & literacy: Letter Writing · Literacy Activities · Reading Tips · Reading Journals · Word of the Week · Study Skills · Thinking Tools · Habits of Mind

Wellbeing & PERMAH: Positive Emotion · Engagement · Respectful Relationships · Meaning and Purpose · Accomplishment · Health · Weekly Wellbeing Check In · Understanding My Feelings · Mood Meter · Positive Self-Talk · Mindfulness Activities · Relaxing Breathing

Character & values: Character Strengths · Strengths Boosters · Gratitudes · What Went Well This Week · Values for Life · Acts of Kindness · Living by Giving · Forgiveness · Growth Mindset · Resilience Builders

Behaviour & relationships: PBL – Positive Behaviour for Learning · School Values & Virtues · Building Friendships · Conflict Resolution · Social Skills · Inclusion Awareness · Teamwork · Leadership

Health & life skills: Achieving Goals · Skills for Life · Nutritional Tips · Self-Care · Sleep · Hygiene · Exercise Log · Wellbeing Fitness Challenges · Being Safe & Aware

Numeracy & curriculum: Numeracy Activities · Number Skills · Multiplication · Civic Studies · Cultural Studies · Moral Education · Physical Literacy & Health · Community Connections

Pathways (senior levels): Career & Guidance Planning · Career Pathways · Work Ready · Vocational Skills · Future Me · Digital Profile · Learner Profile

The same daily and weekly architecture runs through every level — only the prompts, line spacing, and complexity change — so a school can run all four books as one consistent program from Foundation to Year 12.
