Updated for the New IB Math AI Syllabus
The IB has revised the Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation course for students starting the Diploma Programme from August 2027. This second edition is updated for the new course guide, so students learn exactly what will be examined from 2029.
Key changes in the new SL course:
- Content removed at SL: logarithms, and approximating areas with the trapezoidal rule
- No new content added, giving a more focused, coherent course
- Shorter exams: SL Papers 1 and 2 are now 75 marks each (previously 80)
- Revised internal assessment: the mathematical exploration now uses new criteria shared by SL and HL, which are problem specification, abstraction, computation and interpretation
What’s Inside
- Clear explanations of key concepts and applications throughout
- Plenty of worked examples with model answers
- Mapped to the new IB guide, so it’s easy to follow through the course
- Focus on modelling and statistics, the heart of the AI course, plus functions and calculus
